Winner of the 1992 Tony award for Best Play, DANCING AT LUGHNASA presents an intimate portrait of familial love strained by economic hardship and changing times.

In a small Irish village in 1936, five unmarried sisters live together in a spirit of familial unity. The action of the play is told by the sisters’ nephew, Michael, who recalls time spent with his aunts when he was seven years old. The Mundy sisters’ desperation to keep a cohesive home is on full display, as the modern world threatens their way of life, their traditions, and their livelihoods. Set against the backdrop of the ancient harvest festival of Lughnasa, the story weaves together tender moments of laughter, music, the cathartic release of dance, and the unbreakable bonds that hold a family together through hardship.

DANCING AT LUGHNASA will run for two weekends with performances on Fridays (June 5 & 12) at 7:00 PM, Saturdays (June 6 & 13) at 7:00 PM and Sundays (June 7 & 14) at 2:00 PM at the Cyrus Pavilion Theatre, 6 Sebago Road, UMaine.
